InformationWeek reported that the worldwide mobile phone sales reached 190.5 million units in the second quarter of 2005. Nokia and Motorola own nearly half of the market.

The following is the breakdown of the market reach in mobile phone sales:

  • Nokia 31.9 percent
  • Motorola 17.9 percent
  • Samsung 12.8 percent
  • LG 6.5 percent
  • Sony Ericsson 6.2 percent

According to Gartner Inc., sales in Western Europe and North America were driven primarily by phone replacements for older models. In emerging markets, phone boosted sales were contributed to falling average prices.
