Sprint Nextel has raised as of October 1st, 2006 the amount it charges users to send an outgoing SMS message. The original rate was 10 cents per message which was increased by 50% to 15 cents. This is a significant percentage wise increase where other carriers charge around 10 cents per message.

Sprint Nextel raised only rates for SMS usage without a text-messaging or data plan. All plan prices will remain the same. Sprint offers a selection of text messaging plans starting at $5 for 300 text messages per month up to $15 for unlimited messages.
