According to Vinton G Cerf, Vice President of Google, increasing popularity of mobile handsets will bring more people to the internet. Mobile devices reduce the initial cost of access, since phones are less expensive than computers or laptops.

In addition to lower costs, mobile devices allow access and connectivity on the move, which appeals to today’s fast pace world.

“You will get those other 5.5 billion people only when affordability increases and the cost of communication goes down,” Mr. Cerf said of consumers in emerging markets such as India.

It is estimated that currently 2.5 billion people utilize mobile phones worldwide.
