Sprint launches PPC-6700

Sprint Nextel has updated its business website to reflect the PPC-6700, a very high-end handset that we’ve been calling the HTC Apache.

The PPC-6700 has many high end features:

  • Windows Mobile 5.0
  • 416MHz Intel CPU
  • EV-DO, WiFi and Bluetooth
  • QWERTY keyboard
  • miniSD card slot
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • Mobile version of GoToMyPC to access your desktop computer

The PPC-6700 will be available through Sprint business sales channels next week for a suggested retail price of $629.99 before discounts and promotions.

Nokia brings mobile email solution for business users

Nokia anounced a launch of a corporate email system for business users to send and receive email from their mobiles.

Nokia’s email system is available in two modes.

  • standard version (gives office staff basic access to email)
  • professional version (integrates directly into a company’s corporate network directory)

“Considering that 70 per cent of people who use popular email devices also carry a mobile phone, the opportunity for us to provide one device and solution that perfectly addresses the voice and data experiences is tremendous,” said Mary McDowell, executive vice president of Nokia Enterprise Solutions.

Cingular launched the Nokia 6682 today. The new mobile phone retails for $299.00 with a two year contract.

Hearing on Verizon cable franchise license

Newsday has a full story on Verizon’s request for a cable franchise license in New York State. Verizon plans to expand its New York State offerings by launching a new cable TV service.

A public hearing will be held tonight at Massapequa Park on whether to grant such a license to Verizon Communications. If a license is granted, Verizon will become direct competition for Cablevision, for cable subscribers.

At this point, Verizon has won franchise licenses in 10 communities in California, Texas, Virginia and Florida and is negotiating with others.

Verizon expects to launch the new service, called FiOS TV, in Keller, Texas, before the end of this year. The trials of a new service are already started.

Motorola ROKR E1 was anounced to be the first iTunes mobile phone by Apple. Steve Jobs, chief executive, told a media event in San Francisco the $250 phone would hold 100 songs and would be sold exclusively in the US by Cingular Wireless, the biggest mobile operator.

Sprint Launched Samsung SPH-A560

Sprint Nextel launched the Samsung SPH-A560, an entry-level clamshell phone.

The new phone feature set covers all the basics:

  • 32 chord polyphonic ringtones
  • speakerphone capability
  • SMS text messaging is provided
  • 128×160 pixel STN LCD with 65K colors
  • Size: 90mm x 47mm x 25mm

Sprint is charging $9.99 for the A560 with 2 year service activation.
